What ev charger installation involves
The first question on any charge point install is whether your existing supply can carry it. We check the incoming supply, the main fuse rating, the earthing arrangement and the existing load before we quote. On older properties with a PME earthing arrangement, an open PEN detection device or an earth rod may be required, and we will tell you which applies to your property up front.
A charge point is not a socket on an extension. It needs a dedicated circuit from the consumer unit, correctly sized cable, RCD protection to the right type for DC fault currents, and mounting that keeps the cable run tidy and weather sealed. Where the board has no spare way, we will quote the board change alongside so there is no surprise later.
We install untethered and tethered units, single phase and three phase, and can position the unit to suit where you actually park rather than where the cable happens to be easiest. Cable runs are clipped and trunked neatly, and external penetrations are sealed properly.
Installation is notified under Part P through NAPIT and you receive an Electrical Installation Certificate. We also submit the DNO notification, which is a legal requirement for most charge point connections and something a surprising number of installs quietly skip.
